Paper Kutz & Step-parents

You know when you are reaching for a paperback book in the backseat of your car and you almost slice the tip of your finger off with the razor sharp paper cover? yep, I LOVE PAPER KUTZ! It has bled on & off since it happened. Swell...

Onto bigger & better things... So my friend (Thelma)has her step mom (Jane) and sister (Molly) over tonight while they are in town-specifically to see her & her child [Ursula Jr.(yes, I think all my friends should name their children after me, boy or girl-someday it will happen)] who is quite a sick little one. They are sitting around the living room and Thelma says here Ursula Jr. go see your grandma Jane. Jane proceeds to say she is not a grandma & that just because her husband (Tom) is a grandpa does not mean she is a grandma. Jane kind of laughed off the comment as a joke, but what a cold and hurtful thing to say. Especially since Jane & Tom have been married for 30 years. It's not like she's new to the family or anything. So as a note to all you soon to be, or new or possible step parents..... When you married, the family that came before you comes along as part of the package deal!! Treat them as you would like your own children to be treated should they ever be in the same situation.

HAPPY KEESTER!!!

Babies & 911...

Last night I get a phone call from Tracie to meet her at the ER. Then a dial tone. So I literally threw on some clothes ( I did not think I should appear at the emergency room in my tie dyed t-shirt and pj pants I was in as my husband might be lurking about) and drove down there with every horrible thought running threw my mind. After about 20 minutes of staring down the "gate guard" I finally was allowed back. Drake had a fever seizure at home. Tracie called 911 and Drake's first ambulance ride was on! He was admitted right into a room and they put the oxygen moniter on his toe. The Dr came in asked a few questions, wrote some orders and left. He was UN-impressive to say the least! Tracie could not believe how much he cried while we were there. She says she has never heard him cry so much. It took 3 jabs and 3 different people to finally get blood for the test the Dr. ordered 1 shot of antibiotic, 8oz of Pedialyte & about 5 hours before they sent him home with orders to observe, give him tylenol around the clock and follow up with his Dr on Monday. Tracie was so calm during it all. I could not believe it. I was worried that she would be a mess. So not the case at all. She just held Drake, talked to him, & comforted him. I was amazed. She is a 1st rate Mommy!!

The Chill Factor

So..... our fridge is dying. It is quite painful to watch.... It is really painful when you want a cold drink!! I put in for a service call today because it is not chilling anything in it & the soonest they can fit me in is...... the 27th of March! TEN days away! Apparently they think if they just put you off long enough you will just come in to their store and buy a new one! I'm doing a bit of research on the matter. I might get a new one, but on the other hand if I can spend $300 to $400 (hopefully less) and keep it going for a few more years, then that is the path I will be venturing down. Needless to say we will be getting creative with our meals over the next week! At least I will have a valid excuse to visit our new market in town--fresh n'easy to see what they have to offer.... And I foresee many frozen entrees making their way into our home. The freezer still works. I never thought I would miss ice water! The perils of roughing it have not yet begun to sink in......
